接受采访时，独行侠首席执行官Rick Welts表示：“我是唯一一个40年前和现在都在这个房间里的人。40年前，尼克斯中状元签选中了尤因，当时我负责NBA选秀抽签。从那以后，我就一直被卷进各种阴谋论的故事里。对我个人来说，这真是太超现实了。”
40年前（1985年），NBA首次采用抽签来决定选秀顺位，当时7支球队抽中状元签的概率皆为14.3%。而在选秀前的几个月，已经有消息称尤因会去尼克斯。
